PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the net early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
